Rapid Vienna
This game took place at Rapid Vienna's home ground, Eisenstadt, on Saturday 27th July at 8pm as part of the club's pre-season friendly fixtures.
Final result was 0-0 and the game was abandoned due to crowd trouble in the 69th minute.
The offical report from Arsenal.com: "Our pre-season tour of Austria turned sour in Eisenstadt as mindless Rapid Vienna fans staged a mini riot and forced the game to be abandoned. A small group of Austrian fans hurled missiles and charged at the police midway through the second-half. The travelling Arsenal fans from England were thankfully on the opposite side of the ground and were unharmed by the violence, but it brought a sad end to what had promised to be an enjoyable night. Arsene Wenger once again selected a strong side with our French internationals given another run-out, although England World Cup quartet David Seaman, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell and Martin Keown were once again rested. New signing Gilberto Silva was also at the Lindstadion to meet his new team-mates after completing his move from Atletico Mineiro. However, the action on the pitch was overshadowed by the events in the stands as the referee was forced to halt the game as the trouble erupted. Both sets of players stood amazed in the centre circle watching the confrontation between the police and the group of Austrian fans who had earlier thrown flares close to the edge of the pitch. The police finally calmed the situation after about 15 minutes and the game briefly restarted. But both sides had agreed to leave the pitch en masse as quickly as possible once the majority of the players were at the end nearest the dressing room. Manager Arsene Wenger said: "This is sad and we don't really know what happened, but the atmosphere was not quite right in the stadium tonight. "Before we restarted the match we agreed to leave the field as soon as we could when the ball was at the dressing room end."
