Leeds

This game took place at Elland Road, on Saturday 28th September at noon. Attendance was 40,199.

Final result was 4-1. Arsenal's goalscorers were Kanu (9' & 86'), Toure (20') & Henry (46').

Here's the Arsenal.com report: "The Arsenal gunslingers fired us to a stunning 4-1 victory in this high-noon showdown at Elland Road. Kanu and Kolo Toure were quickest on the draw, shooting us 2-0 ahead within 20 minutes. Then Thierry Henry hit the target straight after the interval. Harry Kewell pulled one back with six minutes left but Kanu responded immediately to secure a fully-deserved three points that keeps us on top of the Premiership. In the pre-match build-up, Arsène Wenger said this would be our hardest game of the campaign so far. But we took control early on and never loosened our grip. At times, the pace and power we showed up front was simply stunning. And we have now broken the all-time Football League record for scoring in consecutive matches. Kanu's goal means we have hit the net in our last 47 games, one more than the previous best held by Chesterfield since season 1929-30. Wenger made two expected changes to his line-up and one surprise. With Dennis Bergkamp (Achilles) and Martin Keown (hamstring) injured at PSV Eindhoven in midweek, Kanu and, in his first start for the club, Pascal Cygan were regulation replacements. The unexpected came in the form of Toure, who stepped in for Freddie Ljungberg. But then the Swede had played three frantic matches since coming back from a long-term hip injury, so it was perhaps an understandable switch. The visiting fans were in fine voice despite the long journey up from London for this midday kick-off. They were given plenty to shout after just eight minutes when Kanu put us ahead. Ashley Cole stole the ball on the left just inside the Leeds half and fed the unmarked Toure, who took a few paces forward and shaped to shoot from 10 yards out. However, the youngster spotted Kanu at the far post and the Nigerian stroked the ball into the unguarded net. Leeds lost their composure after the early strike. Although Patrick Vieira had to make a timely intervention when Harry Kewell danced past Cygan inside the area, generally it was the home defence that were stretched. Henry brought the best out of Robinson on 17 minutes and, soon afterwards, we doubled our advantage. Sylvain Wiltord skipped past Danny Mills on the left, raced to byline and cut the ball back for Toure power home a header. Two minutes later, Gary Kelly nodded the ball off the line after Gilberto had climbed highest to meet Henry's corner. It was truly champagne football. In fairness, Leeds got more into the game as we neared half time and David Seaman had to bravely block from Kewell. We had scored after just nine minutes of the first half, but it did not take as long as that after the interval. With just 90 seconds gone, Vieira sent Henry clear on the left with Lucas Radebe hot on heels. But our French striker has almost Olympic pace, which he amply demonstrated before beating Robinson from close range at the near post. Not surprisingly, Leeds rallied after that. Smith smacked a header against bar and Kewell fired home what appeared to be a consolation goal with six minutes left. But Kanu coolly sidefooted home our fourth straight afterwards as we ended the game in the ascendancy."
